Hugo Barão (b. 1999, Portimão, PT) is a Portuguese-British photographer raised in Peniche, a small fishing and surfing town on Portugal’s west coast. Growing up in close contact with changing ocean conditions and community life shaped how he observes and relates to the world.
His work explores intimacy and human relationships through a combination of documentary and artistic narrative. Emotional warmth, attention to detail, and a connection to the natural world are fundamental aspects of his photography, with an emphasis on authenticity and a sense of place.
Barão has collaborated with brands and collectives including 58 Surf, Surfing Western Australia, MB Way, CB Coração Bobo and others across commercial assignments. He's currently based in Lisbon, Portugal.
